The Equinunk Historical Society has filled your dance card with four events that will entertain and inform.
On SATURDAY, July 20, Ann O'Hara of the Wayne County Historical Society will present a program entitled "Early Families of Wayne County." Ann 's lively program are not to be missed. Her research is complete and flawless, and no one is better informed than Ann about her topics. The program will begin at 1 p.m. The Calder Museum doors open at noon, as does the Calder Shop where you will find antiques and craft items made by local artisans, all offered at modest prices. On SUNDAY, July 21, Linda Dix Lee,also associated with the Wayne County Historical Society, will tell the rousing story of early "Rafting the Delaware." Linda's program explores the river rafting/logging industry of the late 1800s, a subject on which she has done much research She has considerable input from the Wayne County Historical Society, and also has colorful back up from her great grandfather’s diaries, which ranged from 1874 to 1945. His name was David Sylvester Dix; and he was born in Tallmanville and lived in Starlight. Linda has prepared a Power Point program with many accompanying pictures. There is a great deal to be learned about glass-making in the Wayne County Area, which was at that time, the center of glass production in the U.S. James Asseltine is just the person to tell the story, being well-steeped in the history of glass production here. Make it a perfect Sunday by also attending the Equinunk Fire Company's Chicken Barbecue. This event is one of the most important fund-raisers for this busy local fire department, and your support is very important.
